Strong finish pushes Lady Quakers past Marietta

Bria Eslick takes aim on 2 of her career-high 24 points in Wilmington's win over Marietta.
A 10-2 game-ending run lifted Wilmington College to an 82-73 win over Marietta College in Ohio Athletic Conference action at Fred Raizk Arena Wednesday night.
The Lady Quakers are now 6-7 in the OAC, 11-9 overall. Marietta drops to 4-9 in the conference, 9-11 for the season.
Bria Eslick (Cleveland Heights/Lutheran East) scored 20 of her game- and career-high 24 points in the second half as Wilmington never surrendered a seven-point halftime lead, but couldn’t put away Marietta until the closing minutes.
When Aleisha Guiler scored at 3:59, the Pioneers pulled with a point at 70-69. After Eslick and Guiler traded baskets, Eslick scored and assisted a Makenzie Wippel (Orient/Westfall) bucket that pushed the Lady Quakers up, 76-71, with 2:27 to play.
Guiler got free to cut the deficit to three, but Eslick scored on a stick-back and Shelby Kies (Maineville/Kings) and LeAnn Topp (New Bremen) iced the win by knocking down a pair of free throws each.
Wippel added 15 points while Brianna Peters (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and Kies added nine and eight points, respectively.
Guiler led Marietta with 17 points while Tori Dixon and Heather Booth added 14 and 13, respectively.
The top rebounding team in the OAC, Wilmington dominated the glass with 52 rebounds to Marietta’s 31. Peters and Eslick collected eight boards apiece and five offensive rebounds each. The Lady Quakers pulled 22 rebounds off the offensive glass.
The win keeps Wilmington in sixth place in the OAC standings, two games ahead of Marietta and John Carroll. The Lady Quakers will travel to conference leader Mount Union for a 3 p.m. game Saturday.
