Harcum Art Gallery will feature two major art shows and the Senior Thesis Exhibit during the spring 2013 season. A highlight will be the second McDonald Biennial.

Works by Jimi Jones will be featured in the gallery through Dec. 7.

John Smolko’s exhibit opens Jan. 23, and runs through March 1 and the second McDonald Biennial will run from March 13 through April 19. The Senior Thesis Exhibit will open April 24, 2013, and run through May 10.

Normally, a reception honoring the artist(s) is held, from 6 to 8 p.m., on the opening day of the exhibit. Normal gallery hours are weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and by special appointment arranged by Hal Shunk, professor of art and curator of the venue.

The inaugural McDonald Biennial Exhibition was held in 2011. Wilmington College alumni Janet and William McDonald are committed to funding the event every two years through 2019.

The couple wishes to share their love for art with their alma mater by sponsoring a painting and printmaking exhibit and competition designed to motivate WC students to consider careers as working artists.

It is designed to encourage the painting and printmaking student to (1) work a bit harder in studio courses, (2) embrace public exposure and evaluation of his or her works, and (3) build the strongest portfolio possible.

Details on each of the exhibits will be available closer to the events.
