Annie Cekada (second from right) finished sixth overall in the WC Fall Classic.
Showing that their regional ranking is valid, the Wilmington College women ran to a third-place finish at the Wilmington Fall Classic Friday afternoon.
The Quakers finished with 115 points and trailed only Division I Ohio State and Division II Findlay in the team standings.
“I think we are building this year,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “We look stronger as we move deeper into the season. I don’t think we’ve had our best race yet, and I don’t think they feel they have, either.
The OAC and regional meets are coming up, and we want to unleash our biggest performance at one of those meets.
Jenna Parlette (Miamisburg) continued her dazzling freshman season with a fourth-place finish, covering the 5K course in 18:43.
Annie Cekada (Mineral Point, Pa./Central Cambria) finished sixth overall in 18:54.
Brittany Gibbons (Pleasant Plain/Blanchester) finished 24th in 19:32.
Tricia Steffen (Baltimore/Liberty Union) was 40th in 20:05, one position ahead of senior Colleen Romeo (Pleasant Plain/Goshen).
“The weather was rainy, as usual, but I really enjoyed the race,” Romeo said. “It went by too quick. The last four years have shown me how valuable running is. You get so much back from it. I am going to be a runner for the rest of my life. This team is going to be so much better next year. I kind of wish I could stick around another year and see what it’s going to be like.”
Lindsey Wilson’s Sharon Ronoh won the race with a course-record time of 18:04.22
