OTTERBEIN — Wilmington College finished fourth at the Otterbein Invitational Saturday.

The Quakers finished 58 points. Otterbein won the event with 227 team points.

"I thought we came out of the gate real well today,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “I’m happy with how things went. We had some nice performances and everybody looked strong for the first meet. We’re all going home healthy, which is also a goal. I’m excited about how things went.”

Mackenzie Wills (Troy/Troy Christian) cleared 10 feet in the pole vault and was edged for first place by Otterbein’s Jordan Long in a jump-off. Liz Delehanty (Euclid/Villa Angela-St. Joseph) jumped to a sixth-place finish.

“Mackenzie is just getting back into the swing of things. She is not 100 percent, but she wants to get in there and battle. I’m excited to see her back out and competing. She is going to be a force before the OAC meet rolls around. Liz has made some great progress. She’s made a big jump. This is going to be a good event for us this season,” Combs said.

Jenna Parlette (Miamisburg) ran the mile in 5:29.33 to finish fourth and was sixth in the 1,000-meter run.

“Today was kind of a workout day for Jenna and our other distance runners,” Combs said. “They ran multiple events, and I think the work was well spent. Jenna’s times in the mile and 1,000 meters were OAC qualifiers. She looked good.”

Wilmington will return to action in the OAC South Split Meet at Marietta Jan. 28.

“We had a lot of people in events today that aren’t their strongest events,” Combs said. “I think we will see a little more from our team next week, when we put them in normal events.”
