BELLBROOK — Wilmington College dropped a 6-3 decision to Muskingum University in Ohio Athletic Conference women’s tennis action at Five Seasons Family Sports Club Saturday afternoon.
The loss drops the Quakers to 1-3 in the OAC, 2-6 overall. Muskingum improves to 1-5 in the conference, 4-6 for the season.
Muskingum entered the match with a 2-0 lead, thanks to Wilmington forfeits at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles. The lead grew to 3-1 with a split in the two contested matches. Erin Cane (Springboro) and Michelle Reiber (Jamestown/Greeneview) were 8-3 winners over Cheyenne Davidson and Cassandra Sarver at No. 2 doubles while Holly Grady (Beavercreek/Xenia Christian) and Lisa Brady (Pickerington/Pickerington North) dropped their No. 1 match to Ally Ferrin and Lindsay Mullen, 4-8.
The Muskies sealed the win by taking three of the five contested singles matches. Reiber picked up her second win of the day by rolling to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Mullen at No. 2 singles.
“Michelle had another solid match. She plays hard on every point,” Wilmington interim head coach Jessie Carmack said. “She did a nice job of controlling the tempo of the match. She was in control from the first serve to the final point.”
Brady posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Davidson at No. 3 singles.
Wilmington will host Capital at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
