Xavier Jordan and the Quakers lost to Mount St. Joseph.
CINCINNATI — Wilmington College ran into a hot-hitting Mount St. Joseph nine and dropped a 21-9 decision to the Lions in a game played at University of Cincinnati’s Marge Schott Stadium Tuesday night.
Wilmington is now 3-7 while Mount St. Joseph improves to 6-6.
The Quakers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Brandon Arehart (Wilmington) walked and scored on a two-out Hunter Justus (Circleville/Logan Elm) single.
After that, it was all Mount St. Joseph.
The Lions were held scoreless in the home first, but scored seven in the second, five in the third and four in the fourth to go up, 16-1.
Justus walked and scored on a MSJ error in the fifth.
In the Quakers seventh, Andrew Snell (Jamestown/Greeneview), Brett McEvoy (Pickerington/Pickerington North) and Russ Neeley (Springboro) had RBI hits.
The Quakers did not put their bats away early. Wilmington ended the night’s scoring with four runs in the ninth, courtesy of a two-run single from Phil Mowell (Springfield/Northeastern) and a Mount St. Joseph error that allowed two more Quakers to score.
Arehart’s three hits led Wilmington’s 16-hit attack. Justus, Luke Teeters (Waverly), Snell and Neeley added two hits apiece.
The Quakers will remain on the road Wednesday with a 6:30 p.m. game against Division I Wright State University.
