Wilmington College dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference dual to defending conference at the WC Natatorium Friday night.

“We came out and raced much better against them this year than we did last year,” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said. “I think our team has been training well and taking confidence from that training. We still have to do a lot of things better, but hopefully we will learn from our mistakes.”

Wilmington’s sprinters showed glimpses of how talented a group they might become.

“Our sprinters had moments of brilliance,” Breen said. “Usually, they are kind of the last ones to come along, but Alex Fout had a really nice 50 free swim. That was the fastest he’s ever gone in our pool, 25.08. That was definitely a step in the right direction.”

Freshman Mason Harris (Westerville/Westerville Central) touched third in the 800-meter freestyle.

“Mason just continues to impress me. Like Corbin Hellwarth, he works hard in every practice and it shows in their race results.”

Hellwarth (Celina/Parkway) finished second in the 100 breaststroke and the 100 individual medley.
