CEDARVILLE — Top-15 performances by Pat Carroll and Myles Corcoran helped Wilmington to an eighth-place finish at the Division III All-Ohio Championship, hosted by Cedarville University Friday afternoon.

The Quakers finished with 214 points. Ohio Northern won the 22-team event with 83 points.

“It kind of points to what we talked about at the start of the year. Both teams are going to be very competitive,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “Our men were eighth and our women were sixth today. We had people in our top five on both sides have off-days and we still cranked out really good finishes for both teams. I’m excited about that, but we’re not satisfied. They know we can run better than we did today.”

Carroll (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian) covered the rain-soaked 8K course in 26:25.07 to finish seventh of 147 runners.

Corcoran (Wilmington/Clinton-Massie) finished 13th in 26:43.01.

“It makes such a huge difference to have two runners up front,” Combs said. “Pat and Myles ran great races. They were third and eighth of Ohio Athletic Conference runners. That’s a good message to send out. Not a lot of people are talking about these guys, but I think they are both going to be right there come the end of October.”

Brad Kline (Circleville) was 38th overall, finishing in 27:18.02.

Alek Erwin (South Vienna/Northeastern) was 61st in 27:52.37.

Rob King (Washington Court House/Miami Trace) finished 95th in 28:33.08.

Wilmington will have a week off before hosting the Wilmington Fall Classic Oct. 14.

“I’m excited about the next month,” Combs said. “We always enjoy hosting our own meet, and then we have the OAC Championships two weeks after that.”
