NEWVILLE, Pa. — Wilmington College ran to a fifth-place overall finish at the Dickinson College Long-Short Invitational Saturday.
The event featured 6K and 4K races with the results combined to determine overall team finishes.
“I am really pleased. There were seven of the top 10 teams in the Mideast Region here today,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “This field was loaded. It was good to see how we stacked up with those kids. It was really a great experience for our kids; they raced really well.”
Annie Cekada (Mineral Point, Pa./Central Cambria) and Jenna Parlette (Miamisburg) led the Quakers to a fifth-place finish in the 21-team 6K race. Cekada was ninth overall with a time of 23:51. Parlette finished 13th in 24:02.
Brittany Gibbons (Pleasant Plain/Blanchester) finished 25th overall in 25:02.
Wilmington finished ninth in the 23-team 4K race. Freshman Tricia Steffen (Baltimore/Liberty Union) was 20th overall in 16:28.
“We had some young kids pushing in there today, and that is exactly what we need,” Combs said. “I though Tricia ran outstanding. That was really a come out race for her.”
Colleen Romeo (Pleasant Plain/Goshen) finished 27th in 16:46.
Anna Foote (Pleasant Plain/Goshen) was 36th in 17:00.
The Quakers will travel to Cedarville to race in the All-Ohio Championship Sept. 30.
