WC dropped, 5-4
April 29, 2011
Holly Grady posted a win in singles play against Heidelberg.
Wilmington College was edged by Heidelberg, 5-4, in Ohio Athletic Conference women’s tennis action on the Quakers’ courts Friday afternoon.
The Quakers are now 2-6 in OAC play, 3-9 overall. Heidelberg improves to 2-6 in the conference, 3-14 for the season.
As often is the case, the team that took the advantage in doubles play was the team to beat — and that team was Heidelberg. The Berg posted wins at No. 1 and 3 doubles to take a 2-1 advantage into singles action. Wilmington’s lone doubles win was a 9-7 win at the No. 2 position by Erin Cane (Springboro) and Michelle Reiber (Jamestown/Greeneview).
Both teams posted three wins on the singles courts.
Jessica VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Deidre Potter at No. 1.
Holly Grady (Beavercreek/Xenia Christian) posted a 6-2, 6-3 win over Taylor Stoll at No. 5.
Kaitlyn Lentz (Miamisburg) was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Linda Miller at No. 6.
The Quakers will close the regular season at home with John Carroll at 1 p.m. Saturday.
