MARIETTA — Wilmington College posted a 5-4 win over Marietta in Ohio Athletic Conference women’s tennis action Saturday afternoon.

The Quakers are now 1-0 in the OAC, 2-2 overall. Marietta falls to 0-1 in the conference, 2-5 for the season.

“This was our first match of the spring and we came out a little shaky,” Wilmington interim head coach Jessie Carmack said. “We missed a lot of shots early on, but we got it together and finished strong.”

Jessica Veite and Jordan VanWinkle both were in on two wins for Wilmington.

Veite (Loveland) was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over MacKenzie Boyles at No. 3 singles, and teamed with Erin Cane (Springboro) to post an 8-4 win over Boyles and Christina Tirpak at No. 2 doubles. Veite is now 3-1 in both singles and doubles action.

“Jessica played really well. She did a nice job of sticking to how she plays and really wore her opponent down,” Carmack said.

VanWinkle (Vickery/Port Clinton) was a 6-3, 6-2 winner over Sarah Campbell at No. 4 singles and teamed with Jennifer VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) to notch an 8-2 win over Campbell and Sarah Snow at No. 3 doubles.
