Corbin Hellwarth spans his lane during the butterfly segment of the 200 IM.
Wilmington College cruised to a 109-65 win over Findlay in non-conference men’s swimming action at the WC Natatorium Saturday afternoon.
“We had some nice swims today,” Wilmington head coach Trip Breen said. “We had some very nice individual and collective performances.”
Breen singled out the effort of senior Mark Fernandez (Milford), who had a solid day in his final home meet.
“Mark Fernandez had a great meet. He had his lifetime in-season best in the 400, and that was coming off an IM,” Breen said.
Freshmen Corbin Hellwarth (Celina/Parkway) and Casey Thompson (Liberty Township/Lakota East) scored points in multiple events.
“Corbin Hellwarth has great potential,” Breen said. “Casey Thompson had an incredible 100 backstroke with his lifetime best swim. He had a really nice meet.”
The Quakers will now turn their focus toward the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship, which gets under way Feb. 17 at University of Akron.
“I feel more confident this year than ever that we’ve put in the work,” Breen said. “We’re ready to rest. I think the worst thing I can do right now is swim them too much in practice. I think we’re absolutely ready to go. I’m really excited for conference this year.”
