April 13, 2011
Jon Asher and the Quakers dropped a 9-0 decision to Otterbein.
Wilmington College dropped a 9-0 decision to Otterbein University in Ohio Athletic Conference men’s tennis action on the Quakers’ courts Wednesday afternoon.
The loss drops Wilmington to 0-4 in the OAC, 0-5 overall. Otterbein moves to 3-1 in conference play, 7-9 for the season.
“They were aggressive and we weren’t,” Wilmington head coach Brian Lawhon said. “Otterbein is a very good, well-coached team that had a game plan that they executed. We were on our heels throughout the match.”
The Cardinals dropped only one game in sweeping the three doubles matches.
In singles play, Connor LaVelle (Athens) lost to Phillip Caprasse, 0-6, 2-6, at the No. 1 position. Otterbein lost three more games in the final five singles matches to take the win home to Westerville.
“Despite the score, we did do some things very well. The guys just need to become more consistent with and confident of their game,” Lawhon said.
The Quakers will return to OAC play with a 1 p.m. Saturday match at Muskingum.
