Wilmington College dropped a 9-0 decision to Cedarville University in women’s tennis action on the Quakers’ courts Tuesday afternoon.

Wilmington is now 2-3 on the season while Cedarville improves to 8-5.

“All the girls gave tremendous effort today. I saw improvements from our match on Saturday, and hopefully we can continue to make improvements. Cedarville is a tough team. It’s good to be playing this kind of competition as we get ready for our Ohio Athletic Conference matches,” Wilmington interim head coach Jessie Carmack said.

The best battle of the match came at No. 1 doubles, where Jessica VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) and Lisa Brady (Pickerington/Pickerington North) lost, 5-8, to Joy Kellogg and Brooke Johnson.

“Our No. 1 doubles played exceptionally well,” Carmack said. “They are gaining more confidence as individuals and as a team. That confidence really showed today.”

At No. 2 doubles, Jessica Veite (Loveland) and Michelle Reiber (Jamestown/Greeneview) lost to Joy Dice and Melissa Stoltzfus, 3-8. Jennifer VanWinkle (Vickery/Floyd Central, Ind.) and Jordan VanWinkle (Vickery/Port Clinton) were defeated by Emma Rahn and Lyndsay Stine at No. 3 doubles, 1-8.

Cedarville swept the singles matches in straight-set fashion. The tightest match came at No. 5, where Brady was topped by Rahn.

“I saw a lot of positives today,” Carmack said. “We will look to continue those positives as we get ready for a very good Ohio Wesleyan team.”

Wilmington and Wesleyan are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. Wednesday on the WC courts.
