WESTERVILLE — Allyssa McMullen broke the Wilmington College weight throw record to win the event at the Otterbein Invitational on Saturday.

The Quaker women finished fourth overall with 64 points. Otterbein won the seven-team event with 245.

McMullen (Warsaw/Riverview) tossed the weight 44-4 to shatter the second-oldest team record, besting Gilliane Roberts’ 1998 throw of 44.2.75.

“Allyssa obviously had a great day. She and our other throwers all work very hard. I am not surprised by her effort today and would not be surprised to see her beat that mark before the season ends,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said.

In addition to McMullen’s win in the field, there was good news for Wilmington fans on the track.

Kelsey Stief (Upper Sandusky) won the 1,000-meter run in 3:12.78.

“That was a good run for Kelsey, especially with it being the first time this year she has run that race,” Combs said.

Morgan Orr (Mount Orab/Western Brown) had another solid day on the track, winning the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:04.43. Orr also finished sixth at 200 meters and was fourth in the long jump.

Lillian Bunn (Winchester/Eastern Brown) finished third in the 5,000-meter run and Annie Cekada (Mineral Point, Pa./Central Cambria) was fourth in the mile run.

“It was a good day for our women,” Combs said. “We still need to add some depth, but the people we are putting on the track and in the field are doing a great job.”
