CRAWFORDSVILLE, IN – The Wilmington College baseball team losing streak extended to 11 games as the Quakers were swept in a non-conference doubleheader by Wabash, 10-0 and 10-5.

The Little Giants opened and capped their scoring with multi-run innings. Wabash tallied a four-spot in the first inning and then tacked on a five-run sixth. They added a single-run inning in the fifth inning.

Wilmington was limited to just three hits in the opener. Senior Jake Vinkovich (Circleville, OH/Circleville), senior Hunter Justus (Circleville, OH/Logan Elm) and freshman Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) each had singles for the Quakers.

Vinkovich fell to 0-3 on the season, allowing four runs on five hits in just two innings of work. Walker allowed five runs on 10 hits in three innings.

Wabash took advantage of four third-inning errors to explode for eight runs in posting the 10-5 win in the second game of the doubleheader. The big inning by the Little Giants came on the verge of Wilmington’s biggest inning.

Freshman Bryce Bean (Lees Creek, OH/East Clinton) kicked off the WC rally in the third inning with a one-out single. Junior Brandon Arehart (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) kept the momentum going with a double down the left field line, and then Justus was hit to load the bases.

Senior Cameron Schwalbach (Circleville, OH/Circleville) gave Wilmington a 2-1 lead with a bases-loaded single. Sophomore Roenick Whitney (Goshen, OH/Goshen) pushed the WC lead to 3-1, however, the rally stymied with back-to-back flyouts.

Freshman Clay Cleaver (Pleasant Plain, OH/Little Miami) had a RBI triple in the fourth inning and then scored on an RBI groundout by Bean.

Freshman McKale Stakely (Pataskala, OH/Licking Heights) took the loss to fall to 0-1, allowing eight runs (four earned) on four hits in 2 2/3 innings. Sophomore Troy Wagner (Bright, IN/East Central) yielded two runs (one earned) in 3 1/3 innings, allowing four hits.

The completion of the four-game series scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled. Wilmington (3-12) will play Ohio Christian 3 p.m. Friday at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe.
