ALLIANCE — Wilmington College was blitzed by No. 10 Mount Union, 65-41, in Ohio Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The loss drops Wilmington to 6-8 in the OAC, 11-10 overall. The win is a school-record 15th straight for the Purple Raiders, who are now 13-1 in the OAC, 20-1 for the season.

“They beat us in every phase of the game,” Wilmington head coach Jerry Scheve said. “We played hard, but we had some lapses. If you want to beat a team like Mount Union, you can’t have any lapses.”

Wilmington opened the game with baskets from Brianna Peters (Alexandria, Ky./Campbell County) and Bria Eslick (Cleveland Heights/Lutheran East) to take a 4-0 lead.

The Raiders overtook the Lady Quakers when Erin Schmidt hit a 3-pointer at 15:09.

Mount Union hit 6-of-11 shots from downtown to push its advantage to 41-20 at the break.

“We just couldn’t make shots all day long. Mount Union is very good and they took advantage of some of our defensive breakdowns to get some easy shots. Once you let a team like Mount Union get on a roll, they make you pay, and they did,” Scheve said.

Peters led Wilmington with seven points and eight rebounds. Eslick and Danielle King (West Liberty/West Liberty-Union) added six points each.

Wilmington remains in sixth place in the OAC standings with four regular-season games remaining. The top eight teams will advance to the OAC Tournament with the No. 5 and 6 seeds receiving first-round home games.

Wilmington will play at Muskingum 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The Muskies are in ninth place, a game behind John Carroll and Marietta.

“The only game we are thinking about is Wednesday night at Muskingum,” Scheve said. “We haven’t won on the road in more than two months. Muskingum is going to be a challenge. Every game is big, in terms of tournament seeding. This is one we need to win. More importantly, we need to continue improving.”
