AUSTINTOWN — Wilmington College senior Mitch Howard and junior Pat Carroll have been named to the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Cross Country/Track and Field Team. Both received honorable mention recognition.
The academic award winners are selected by OAC faculty representatives. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average, be a starter or key reserve and be in at least his second year of participation in the sport.
Howard (Germantown/Valley) recently graduated with a 3.41 GPA as an athletic training major. A versatile athlete, he was a hurdler and jumper and earned All-OAC honors in the triple jump.
“This is another notch for Mitch, in terms of his career at Wilmington, both athletically and academically,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “He had an outstanding year for the team, and he has always been an outstanding student.”
Carroll (Cincinnati/Purcell Marian) maintains a 3.74 GPA as an international studies major. He is a two-time All-OAC cross country runner.
“Pat made big strides this year,” Combs said. “He has always been strong in the classroom, but he really stepped it up this year. He has always been a great leader for our team. We’re excited to have him back next year.”
