Alumni and Friends to Converge upon Campus
10/15/09
The Gobblers and Delts' bed racing team competes in last year's annual Homecoming bed races.
Alumni and friends of Wilmington College will converge upon the campus to renew ties with former classmates and their alma mater this weekend (Oct. 16-18) for the annual rite of Homecoming.
While students got an early start to the festivities Thursday with a mud volleyball tournament and making S’mores around the bonfire, Homecoming revelers that arrive today (Friday) can see comedian Eddie Ifft in the Top of Pyle.
On Saturday, the day’s activities start at 10 a.m. with an alumni baseball game at Delaney-Tewksbury Field and Greek bed races on Elm St. beginning at 10:30 a.m. Homecoming banners will be on display on the stadium fence facing Elm St.
The Street Fair featuring games and attractions sponsored by campus organizations will be held inside Williams Stadium beginning at 11:30 a.m. A picnic lunch will be served from noon through the 1:30 p.m. kickoff of the Quakers’ football game versus Otterbein College.
Just prior to kickoff, members of WC’s 1999 football team, which had a nine wins, one loss record, will be recognized on their winning season’s 10th anniversary.
Halftime highlights will include the introduction of the Homecoming Court and crowning of its king and queen. Also, the 2009 class of the Athletic Hall of Fame will be inducted. They are wrestler Jerry Grammes, Class of ’99; Bill Hardman, ’81, soccer; Eric Noble ’96, football; and Nyhla Rothwell, 99, track and field.
The inductees also will be honored at a Saturday evening banquet.
Homecoming activities will continue in the evening with the women’s soccer team hosting Mount Union College, followed by the annual Homecoming dance.
Special reunion gatherings will be held for alumni of Activities Planning Board, Residence Life staff, the Agriculture Department, athletic training, service learning, and Concerned Black Students, Multicultural Student Union and Black Student Initiative.
