MARIETTA — Wilmington College finished fifth at the Ohio Athletic Conference South Meet, hosted by Marietta College Saturday.

The Quakers finished with 65 team points. Otterbein claimed the team title with 163 points.

“The people we had did well, but it’s just a depth issue for us,” Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. “We’ve got kids who can run; we just don’t have enough to score the way we’d like to.”

Brittany Gibbons (Pleasant Plain/Blanchester) torched the field to win the 5,000-meter run in 18:50.05, more than 2:30 ahead of her nearest competitor.

“Brittany had an outstanding performance,” Combs said. “I just continue to be amazed by what she’s doing. It’s simple — she just works really hard and competes really hard, and it’s paying off for her. That was an impressive run because there was nobody pushing her. To run that fast alone was really impressive.”

Tricia Steffen (Baltimore/Liberty Union) won the mile run, finishing in 5:36.94.

“That was a good run and a good confidence booster for Tricia,” Combs said. “She also finished second in the 3,000. She is going to be a very good runner for the next three years.”

Jenna Parlette (Miamisburg) was third at 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 10:50.98.

Colleen Romeo (Pleasant Plain/Goshen) covered 1,000 meters in 3:15.97 to finish second.

Liz Delehanty tied her personal best with a 10-foot effort in the pole vault that captured third place.

Morgan Orr (Mount Orab/Western Brown) finished ninth in the shot put with a best effort of 32-6 ½.

“That was a PR for Morgan in the shot put,” Combs said. “She is very strong for her size and is very explosive. We think that she is going to be tough in the javelin this spring. We’re trying to make her into a hammer thrower. She is very versatile and athletic.”
