Bruce Dunlap is the OAC Hitter of the Week.
AUSTINTOWN — Wilmington College senior Bruce Dunlap has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Hitter of the Week, the league office announced today.
Dunlap (Circleville/Logan Elm) opened the season with a week to remember in the Gene Cusic in Fort Myers, Fla. He batted .581 (18 for 31), ripped three doubles, two triples, drove in 14 runs, scored six runs and compiled an eye-popping .806 slugging percentage. The infielder also was perfect defensively, handling 22 chances without committing an error.
“Bruce was all-conference last year, and we just knew coming into this season that he is going to have an outstanding year,” Wilmington head coach Tony Haley said. “He had a terrific fall and great winter.”
Haley said Dunlap’s talent is surpassed only by his desire to improve as a player.
“Bruce is a great hitter. He uses the whole field, hits for average, but he is a throwback player who really loves the game. He can’t wait to get to the field. He is always ready to play. He takes more batting practice than anybody. You don’t reach the level he has just by playing in games. He works hard on his game every chance he gets.”
