Crowds Enjoy Wilmington's Civil War Day
WC's Quaker Heritage Center Co-Sponsored Event Commemorating 150th Anniversary of War between the States
July 15, 2013
Near the steps of the Clinton County Courthouse, Civil War Ohio Gov. William Dennison (Bob Davis), backed by Union soldiers, confronts Confederate Gen. John Hunt Morgan (Lonnie Combs), the latter of whom led a raid into Ohio 150 years ago this summer.
Downtown Wilmington was transformed into an exciting living Civil War museum Saturday (July 13) as the wide-rangling "Reflection of Time: A Southern Ohio Civil War Day" commemorated the 150th anniversary of Confederate Brigadier General John Hunt Morgan’s raid through Ohio.
Regional historical organizations and local businesses showcased their stories, demonstrations, products and exhibits to highlight the event.
The event was hosted by the Quaker Heritage Center of Wilmington College and Ohio History Service Corps, an AmeriCorps volunteer program designed to support efforts to preserve Ohio’s history.
The hub of activity was at the Clinton County Courthouse, where the Ohio Valley Civil War Association presented an encampment and sharpshooter demonstrations.
