Cross Country top DIII finishers at Cedarville

CEDARVILLE – The Wilmington College cross country teams traveled to Cedarville Saturday and earned the top Division III finish in the meet.
"I saw a lot of improvement from both the men's and women's team from Franklin two weeks ago," said head coach Ron Combs. "It's exciting to see how much growth we've made in two weeks. We will be back on this course in two weeks for the All-Ohio. It was be nice to see that same type of improvement in two weeks."
Sophomore Jenna Parlette (Miamisburg, OH/Miamisburg) finished fourth of 128 runners to lead a women’s team that is still without NCAA qualifier Annie Cekada. Parlette completed the 5K course in 18:41.33.
"Jenna ran a great race," said Combs. "She has really stepped out for us with Annie out."
The Fightin’ Quakers had four of the top five Division III finishers as they finished five overall of 12 teams in the race.
Sophomore Tricia Steffen (Baltimore, OH/Liberty Union) was the second WC runner to cross the finish line, placing 12th in 19:22.51. Wilmington’s scoring was rounded out by senior Brittany Gibbons (Pleasant Plain, OH/Blanchester) 27th in 20:02.49; senior Karlee Michel (Alexandria, OH/Johnstown Monroe) 39th 20:28.26 and freshman Mary Ann Krebs (Kettering, OH/Alter) 62nd in 21:09.44.
In the men’s 8K race, WC had the top two Division III finishers as junior Alek Erwin (South Vienna, OH/Northeastern) and junior Myles Corcoran (Clarksville, OH/Clinton-Massie) finished 16th and 17th, respectively. Erwin completed the course in 26:11.69, while Corcoran come in at 26:13.59.
"We had a lot of guys run their personal bests today," said Combs. "It's the best race we've run in a while on the men's side."
Wilmington finished fifth of nine teams, just ahead of Ohio Athletic Conference foe Muskingum.
Sophomore Rob King (Washington Court House, OH/Miami Trace) was the third Quaker to finish, placing 29th in 26:45.31. The Wilmington scoring was rounded out by senior Chad Hirschauer (Cincinnati, OH/Milford) 46th in 27:18.85. and sophomore Jacob Boehm (Blanchester, OH/McNicholas) 55th in 27:39.64.
The Fightin’ Quakers will welcome Muskingum to campus Thursday for a dual relay event.
