Annie Cekada ended her season at the NCAA Championship.
WINNECONNE, Wis. - Wilmington College junior Annie Cekada finished 145th at the NCAA Cross Country Championship at Lake Breeze Golf Course Saturday afternoon.
Cekada (Mineral Point, Pa./Central Cambria) covered the 6k course in 22:35. There were 277 runners in the event.
"Annie had a good race. There was a re-start because a runner fell during the initial start. On the re-start, Annie got boxed in, wedged in pretty bad," Wilmington head coach Ron Combs said. "She's not used to running from the back of the pack."
Cekada was able to pick off several runners and was still moving up as the race concluded.
"She did a great job. It was a flat, fast course, which doesn't suit her style. She runs better on the tough courses, the kind we look forward to seeing next year when Rose-Hulman hosts the NCAA meet," Combs said.
Cekada was making her second appearance in the NCAA Championship. She qualified as a freshman in 2009 and missed qualifying last season by one position.
Cekada is the only runner in Wilmington College cross country history to run in the NCAA Championship.
"I expect Annie to be back at the national meet next year," Combs said. "She works hard every day. She is one of the most dedicated athletes I have ever seen."
