FT. MYERS, FL – Junior Brandon Arehart had four hits with four RBI Monday as Wilmington split a doubleheader with Anna Maria - losing the opener, 7-6, and taking the nightcap, 6-2.

Wilmington raced out to a 6-0 lead before a bout of wildness enabled the Amcats to post the win. Fightin’ Quakers pitchers allowed seven walks, including four straight with two outs in the fifth inning. Anna Maria kept the pressure on the Quakers in the sixth. They recorded four consecutive two-out singles to score two runs to knot the game, and then scored the winning run on a wild pitch.

“We hit the ball well today, but we walked too many guys,” said Tony Haley. “You walk guys, they will score. It was really disappointing.”

One day after earning the win in relief, senior Reid Wurtz (Lawrenceburg, IN/East Central) was saddled with the loss after allowing three earned runs on five hits in two-thirds of an inning. Freshman Corey Walker (Hillsboro, OH/Hillsboro) gave up six hits, allowing four runs (one earned) with five walks in his first collegiate start.

Arehart (Wilmington, OH/Wilmington) was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored, while senior Hunter Justus (Circleville, OH/Logan Elm) had two RBI.

Sophomore Troy Wagner (Bright, IN/East Central) struck out seven to earn the complete game victory in the second game of the doubleheader. He yielded two earned runs on three hits with three walks.

The Fightin’ Quakers put a two-out rally together in the second inning as Walker singled and Jake Vinkovich (Circleville, OH/Circleville) reached on an error. Freshman Clay Cleaver (Pleasant Plain, OH/Little Miami) doubled home a run and Arehart singled home two more to give WC the 3-0 lead.

A two-run homer pulled the Amcats to within one in the top of the third, but RBI by Tyler Schrock (Waynesville, OH/Waynesville) and Vinkovich helped the answer in the bottom half of the inning. Wilmington tacked on a run in the fifth inning on a Schrock single.

Eight different players recorded a hit in the victory with Arehart and Cameron Schwalbach recording two each.

Wilmington (3-1) returns to the diamond Tuesday with a nine-inning game against Kenyon.
