16th Annual Banned Books Read-In Planned at Watson Library
Event Protests Censorship
September 18, 2009
Students, faculty, staff and other Wilmington community members are invited to read 10 to 15-minute passages from books that have been banned anywhere in the world at Wilmington College's 16th annual Banned Books Read-In.
The event will be held Sept. 30, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., on the main floor of Watson Library.
The read-in, which is held in conjunction with National Library Week, is a protest against censorship in the United States and around the world. Books featured in the past include Charlotte's Web, To Kill a Mockingbird, Gulag Archipelago, Huck Finn and the Holy Bible.
To schedule a time to read your favorite banned book, call Joni Streber at Watson Library, 937-382-6661 ext. 345. Also, the library has a list of books from which passages could be read.
