Northern shoots out lights in big win

Gee scores a career-high 20 points in loss

(WC Press Release) Ada, Ohio (December 10, 2003) -- The Wilmington
Quakers were unable to overcome a strong shooting performance from
Ohio Northern, as the Quakers evened their OAC record to 1-1 with
a 98-64 loss on Wednesday. Ohio Northern shot 54.8 percent (34-of-62)
from the field and an even better 60.7 percent (17-of-28) from three
point range in the victory.
The
Quakers never led in the game, and fell behind by double digits
at 21-9 with 12:28 left in the first half. After the Polar Bears
took the 12-point lead, the Quakers went on a 6-0 run to cut the
deficit in half. Six would be as close as they would come in the
first half, as the Polar Bears ended the half on a 26-13 run to
give them a 19-point lead heading into the locker room.
The
hosts came out of the gate in the second half firing, opening a
20-point lead that they would continue to increase until the end
of the contest.
Stephen
Gee (West Milton/Milton-Union) led the Quakers scorers with 20 points,
while Deon Short (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy) chipped in 16 in the loss.
Gee and B.J. Gordon each pulled down six rebounds while David Guy
(Webb City, MO/Webb City) dished out two assists.
Ohio
Northern was led by Chad Bostelman who scored 21 points while Jim
Conrad scored 19 and Nate Lieb 18 while Mark Killian rounded out
the four starters in double figures with 13 points. Killian pulled
down a game-high 11 rebounds while Billy Barkimer dished out a game-high
five assists.
With
the loss the Quakers fall to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in the OAC while
Ohio Northern improves to 4-1 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
The
next game for the Green and White is on Saturday, December 13, when
the team travels north to Berea, Ohio to face off against the Yellow
Jackets of Baldwin-Wallace College with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
