Slow start haunts Quakers

Wilmington, OH (November 24, 2002) -- The Wilmington Quakers (0-2) scored just 18 first half points while trailing by 20 before coming back to within seven in the second half before falling by 12 to the Manchester College Spartans (1-1).

The Quakers scored first in the game when Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton Union) hit a three point basket just 45 seconds into the contest. After Gee's score the Green and White came onto a cold spell, missing their next eight shots. Overall in the first half the team shot 26 percent (6-of-23) from the field.

In the second half the Green and White found themselves down by 25 points (61-36) with 8:50 left in the game. WC outscored the Spartans 29-11 over the next eight minutes to cut the deficit to just seven with 50 seconds left in the game. That would be as close as WC would come, as Manchester outscored the Quakers 5-0 in the last 50 seconds to secure the victory.

Robert Myrick (Maysville, KY/Mason County) scored 18 points off of the bench to lead the Quakers while David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) had 14 points and Greg Liggens had 13. Guy and Liggens each pulled down a team-high six rebounds while Josh Rohrbacher (Columbus/Beechcroft) had six steals.

Devin Price-Presslaff, who had 18 points and seven rebounds while Lindsay Henderson had 13 points and seven boards while Julian Guess had a dozen points, led Manchester.

The Green and White take a break until December 4, when the team travels to Richmond, Indiana to face off in the "Quaker Bowl" against Earlham College with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.

In the championship game, the Goshen Maple Leaves (6-3) defeated the Olivet Comets (1-1) 88 to 80. Jeremy High and Jordan Buller each scored 20 for the Maple Leaves while Eric Walsh scored 18 points while pulling down 15 rebounds. T

he Comets were led by Michael Dyson who had 21 points while Patrick Dermeyer and Ronnie Pearson each scored 15 in the loss.
