Quakers defeated
by Olivet
Wilmington,
OH (November 23, 2002) -- The Wilmington College Quakers dropped
their season opener by a 91-69 to an athletic Olivet squad.
The team was
led by Adam Weber (Peebles/Peebles) who scored 20 points on 7-of-12
shooting, including going 5-for-9 from beyond the three-point arc.
Freshman Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton-Union) scored 18 points
in his first career game and Freshman Robert Myrick (Maysville,
KY/Mason County) chipped in ten also in his first game. Nine Quakers
scored in the defeat.
Senior forward
Michael Dyson paced the way for Olivet with 27 points on 10 of 20
shooting from the field, and 5-7 shooting behind the three-point
arc. Sophomore Ronnie Pearson had 14 points and five rebounds, and
junior Matt Brawley chipped in 10.
The Quakers
fall to 0-1 on the season as Olivet advances to 1-0.
The next game
for the Green and White is Sunday, November 24, when the team plays
host to Manchester in the consolation game of the Fred Raizk Tournament.
In the second
semi-final game of the afternoon, the Goshen Maple Leaves defeated
the Manchester Spartans 78-75 in a thriller. Eric Walsh led Goshen
(5-3)with 20 points while Mark Wenclewicz had 13 and Eric High and
Jordan Buller each put in 12. Manchester (0-1) was led by Julian
Guess who scored 19 and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds while
Lindsay Henderson scored 12.
Manchester will
play Wilmington in the consolation game on Sunday at 2:00 while
Olivet will face off against Goshen with tip-off set for 4:00 p.m.
