Quakers drop second straight

WILMINGTON, Ohio (February 8, 2003) ­ The Wilmington College Quakers were defeated 85-57 in OAC action on Saturday afternoon. 10 of the 12 Quaker players that saw action scored in the game while John Carroll put four players in double figure scoring.

Wilmington (4-17, 2-12 OAC) led in the game at 3-2 3:30 into the game before the visiting Blue Streaks rattled off a 12-0 run over the next three and a half minutes, taking an 11-point lead. The Quakers clawed their way back, and trailed by just seven with four minutes to go in the half before JCU opened a 10-0 run that gave the visitors from University Heights a double digit advantage that they held going into the locker room up by 15 at 43-28.

John Carroll (14-6, 11-3 OAC) scored first in the second stanza and never looked back, outscoring the Quakers 42-29 and led by as many as 32 in the period, ending the game up by 28 at 85-57.

Leading the way for the Quakers was David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) who scored a team-high 11 points. Mike Umpleby (Columbus/Centenniel) scored nine for the hosts as 10 of the 12 players that got into the game reached the scoring column. Deon Short (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy) pulled down a team-leading seven rebounds while also dishing out three assists to lead the squad.

John Carroll put four players in double figures in the scoring column, led by Michael Groganšs 16 points. Matthew Moran scored 14 while Andrew Salata scored 11 and David Gibbons chipped in 10. Gibbons pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds while Ryan Dolatowski and Salata each grabbed nine while Jim Rosol dished out a game-high five assists.

The next game for the Quakers is on Wednesday, February 12 when the team travels to New Concord, Ohio to face off against the Muskies of Muskingum College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
