fall to conference leader

Short scores a career-high 27 points in five-point loss

Press Release) University Heights, Ohio (February 7, 2004) -- The
Wilmington College Quakers out-scored the John Carroll Blue Streaks
39-33 in the second half, but the 11-point halftime deficit was
too much to overcome, as the visitors from Wilmington fell 68-63.
Deon
Short (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy) scored a career-high 27 points on
11-of-17 shooting while pulling down seven rebounds to also lead
the team.
Both
teams struggled to find the net early in the first half, as the
Quakers led by four at 8-4 with 14:15 to play in the first half.
JCU responded with an 11-0 run to take a seven point lead. The Quakers
cut the deficit to two before the Blue Streaks used a late run to
take an 11-point, 35-24 lead into the locker room.
In
the second half the Blue Streaks increased their lead to as many
as 15, two minutes into the second half, and by 14 with 1:14 to
play in the game. The Green and White clawed their way back, and
ended the game on a 11-2 run to cut the deficit to five by the final
horn.
Short
led the way for the Quakers with 27 points while Josh Rohrbacher
(Columbus/Beechcroft) scored 15, a new career high, and Luke Wolfinbarger
(Franklin/Franklin) chipped in eight. Short pulled down a team-leading
seven rebounds while Rohrbacher grabbed six.
John
Carroll was led by Michael Grogan who scored 28 points on 4-of-7
shooting from beyond the three-point arc, while David Gibbons and
Pete Moran scored 13 and 12 respectively.
With
the loss the Quakers fall to 1-20 on the season and 1-13 in the
OAC while JCU improves to 16-4 overall and 11-3 in league action.
The
next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, February 11 when
the team plays host to the Muskies of Muskingum College with tip-off
set for 7:30 p.m.
