Quakers unable to overcome shooting slump against ONU
ADA, Ohio (January
29, 2003) The Quakers of Wilmington College shot just 32 percent
in the first half en-route to just 15 points, as the Quakers were
defeated 61-48 against Ohio Northern University on Wednesday evening.
1-10 OAC) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead two minutes into the game
before Ohio Northern went on a 14-2 run over the next ten minutes
to take an eight point lead. Both teams struggled to find the bottom
of the net for the remaining eight minutes, as Ohio Northern went
into the locker room nursing a 10-point, 25-15 lead.
(10-8, 8-3 OAC) scored seven of the first eight points in the second
period to take a 33-16 lead with 14:44 left in the game. The deficit
for the Green and White grew to as many as 19 with nine minutes
left in the contest before the Quakers used a 6-0 spurt to close
to within 13 with 7:20 to go in the contest. The deficit would be
cut to as few as nine and ended at 13, 61-48.
(Toledo/Scott) and Deon Short (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy) each scored
a team-high eight points while Josh Rohrbacher (Columbus/Beechcroft)
scored seven in the loss. David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) pulled
down a team-leading seven rebounds while Mike Umpleby (Columbus/Centennial)
and Dave Hudson (Bucyrus/Col. Crawford) each dished out three assists.
The Polar Bears
were led by Jim Conrad who scored 23 points while Chad Bostleman
scored 15 and Mark Killian chipped in with 14. Killian pulled down
a game-high 11 rebounds for the Polar Bears as Conrad gave out four

for the Green and White is set for Saturday, February 1 when the
team plays host to the Pioneers of Marietta College with tip-off
slated for 3:00 p.m.
