Pair of career highs not enough for Quakers against #17 Capital

WILMINGTON, Ohio (January 22, 2003) ­ The Quakers of Wilmington College had a pair of career-high scoring nights, but it was not enough as the Green and White dropped a conference battle to #17 ranked Capital University 86-69. Stephen Gee (West Milton/Milton-Union) and Dave Hudson (Bucyrus/Col. Crawford) scored 19 and 16 points respectively to record career highs.

Capital (13-3, 8-1 OAC) never trailed in the game, as the team jumped out to an 8-2 lead just three minutes into the game. The first half lead grew to as many as 16 in the game before the Quakers went on a 12-3 run the cut the deficit to seven with two minutes left in the period before ending the half down by 11 at 38-27.

Wilmington (3-13, 1-8 OAC) cut the Capital lead to nine 1:30 into the half before the visitors from Bexley worked their way up to a 20-point lead with 11:14 left in the game. The Quakers would not give up, and went on a 16-4 run over the next five minutes to cut the Capital lead to eight with 5:35 left to play in the game. The Green and White got to within seven twice in the contest but that would be as close as the team would come, as Capital ended the game on a 7-0 run to take a 17-point, 86-69 victory back to Bexley.

Gee led the way for the Quakers scoring 19 points while Hudson scored 16, all in the second half. Will Bruce (Cleveland/Benedictine) scored 11 points for the Quakers, as all nine players that saw action in the game scored. David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) pulled down a team-high six rebounds while Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott) grabbed five. Bruce and Liggens each dished out a team-leading three assists in the loss.

Capital put six players in double figure scoring, led by Adam Stollyıs 21 points, including 12 straight during a stretch in the second half. Geron Tate scored 13 while Tyler Schleich scored 11 and Jake Back, Tony Ruberg and Chuck Bihn each chipped in with 10. Tate and Bihn each pulled down seven rebounds as Stolly dished out a game-high six assists.

The next game for the Green and White is set for Saturday, January 25 as the team travels to Berea, Ohio to face off against the Baldwin-Wallace Yellow Jackets with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
