Quakers fall in double overtime 97-90
Guy and Nelson each score 18 in losing effort

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The
Wilmington College Quakers fell to 25th ranked Baldwin-Wallace
College in double overtime 97-90 on
Saturday afternoon. David Guy (Webb City, MO/Webb City) and Billy
Nelson (Cincinnati/Shroder Paideia Academy) each scored 18 points
in the loss.
The two teams battled for the first 14 minutes of the game, as
the Yellow Jackets held a five-point, 25-20 lead with 6:11 to play
in the first half before the Quakers opened a 25-2 run, taking
a 16-point lead with 1:17 to pay in the half. The Yellow Jackets
scored the final four points of the half, cutting the deficit to
12 by halftime.
The Yellow Jackets kept chipping away at the Quaker lead, eventually
taking a four-point lead with 3:53 to play in the game. The Quakers
then used an 8-0 run to take a four-point lead of their own, with
2:21 remaining. The two teams exchanged baskets in the next minute
before the Yellow Jackets scored the final four points of the half,
knotting the game at 67 at the end of regulation.
The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a six-point, 75-69 lead in the
first overtime before the Quakers chipped away, getting to within
three with 11 seconds to play. Josh Rohrbacer (Columbus/Beechcroft)
hit a three-point basket from just above the elbow with 0.7 to
play, tying the game at 80 and sending the contest into its second
extra period.
The Quakers had a two-point lead with 3:21 to go in the second
overtime before the Yellow Jackets caught fire from the free throw
line and scored the next nine points of the game, giving them a
seven-point lead with 55 seconds in the contest. The Quakers were
only able to get as close as five the rest of the way in the seven-point
loss.
Guy and Nelson each scored 18 points, with the 18 points representing
a new career high for Nelson. Deon Short (Cincinnati/Mt. Healthy)
scored 16 points while Zach Broermann (Brookville, IN/Franklin
County) scored 15 points, also a career high. Rohrbacher and Brett
Carpenter (Marshallville/Smithville) each pulled down six rebounds
while Short and Eric Stirling (Brooklyn, NY/LaSalle Academy) each
grabbed five boards. Short, Broermann and Nelson each dished out
four assists to lead the team.
Baldwin-Wallace was led by Tori Davis who had 29 points and eight
rebounds while Thad Davis had 13 points and 12 boards. Tom Harrington
scored 18 points while Matt Marks put up 17 points in the win.
Harrington dished out seven assists to lead the team.
With the loss, the Quakers snap a five-game win streak and fall
to 7-5 overall and 3-2 in the OAC while Baldwin-Wallace improves
their win streak to six games, improving to 11-2 overall and 4-2
in league action.
The next game for the Green and White is on Wednesday, January
12 when the team travels to New Concord, Ohio to face off against
the Muskies of Muskingum College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
