Men use strong
first half to run past Oberlin
OBERLIN, Ohio
(January 2, 2003) The Wilmington College Quakers outscored the
Oberlin Yeomen 37-18 in the first half en-route to a 68-47 victory
for the visitors. Greg Liggens (Toledo/Scott) led the Quakers with
a game-high 18 points, shooting 7-of-10 from the field.
The Quakers
(3-8), who never trailed in the contest, got their first points
from a Josh Rohrbacher (Columbus/Beechcroft) three point basket.
After an Oberlin jumper that cut the deficit to one, the Green and
White went on a 22-5 run to give the team a double-figure advantage,
one that they would not give up for the rest of the game. The first
half lead would grow to as many as 20, and ended at 19, 37-18.
In the second
half Oberlin (0-8) got on the board first, but it was not enough,
as the Quakers outscored the Yeomen 31-29 in the second stanza,
ending the game up by 21 at 68-47.
Liggens led
all scorers with 18 points while Will Bruce (Cleveland/Benedictine)
and Adam Weber (Peebles/Peebles) chipped in with 11 points apiece.
Liggens and Bruce each pulled down a team leading six rebounds while
Dave Hudson (Bucyrus/Col. Crawford) dished out a game-high five
assists.
Oberlin was
led by Bosko Tomasevic, who scored 14 points and pulled down nine
rebounds in the contest.
The next game
for the Green and White is set for Wednesday, January 8, when the
team plays host to Muskingum College with tip-off set for 7:30 p.m.
