Athletic Training Faculty and Staff
Program Director: Larry Howard is the Athletic Training Program Director and Associate Professor of Health, Physical Education and Athletic Training. An alumnus of Wilmington College, Larry earned his bachelor's degree in athletic training and health and sports administration in 1986. He received his master's degree in education from the University of South Florida in 1988. With over 19 years of athletic training experience, Larry is responsible for directing the athletic training education program. Before accepting the Program Director's position Larry served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of South Florida for 2 years and as Head Athletic Trainer for Wilmington College for 15 years. Larry and his wife Lisa have three children Dillon, Molly, and Bryce. The Howards reside in Beavercreek, Ohio.

Clinical Education Coordinator: Erika Smith Goodwin is the Clinical Education Coordinator and Associate Professor of Health, Physical Education and Athletic Training. She is also an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and an American Red Cross Health and Safety instructor. Erika is a 1995 graduate of Wilmington College where she earned her bachelor's degree in athletic training. In 1998, she received her master's degree in health and physical education from Wright State University. She is currently working on a Ph.D. in athletic training and higher education administration from the Union Institute and University. Erika began teaching equine science courses at WC in 1995 and began as a part time clinical instructor for the AT program in 1996. She became a full time faculty member/athletic trainer in 2000. Prior to her full time commitment to Wilmington College, Erika served as the Head Athletic Trainer for Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. She has also been affiliated with Rehab Plus, in Washington Court House, Ohio and The Sports Medicine Center in Hillsboro. She is a volunteer EMT with the Port William Fire and Rescue Department. Erika and her husband Brad reside in Port William, Ohio.

Head Athletic Trainer: Mike Weller is the Head Athletic Trainer. Mike earned a bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Capital University in 1995. He then was awarded the Thomas Templeton fellowship in January of 1996. After completing this orthopedic fellowship Mike enrolled at Ohio University where he graduated with a master's degree in physical education with a concentration in Athletic training in 1997. Mike then accepted the Head Athletic Trainer position at Bryan College. Mike served as the Head Athletic Trainer for five years and was named the Tennessee College and University Athletic trainer of the year in 2002. Mike was then promoted to Athletic Training Program Director and Assistant Professor in Exercise and Health Science. As Program Director, Mike developed and led Bryan's initial accreditation bid. The Bryan College ATEP gained accrediatation in the spring of 2004. Mike and his wife Sherry reside in Wilmington with their two daughters Olivia and Aubre.

 | Athletic Trainer/Faculty: Linda Tecklenburg is an Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor of Health, Physical Education and Athletic Training. Linda earned the first of her two bachelor's degrees at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island where she studied Biology with a concentration in Biomedical Sciences. After raising her children Linda returned to college to earn a second bachelor's degree in Athletic Training from Wilmington College. She also holds a Master's degree in Exercise Science from the University of Cincinnati. Before coming to WC, she worked for the University of Virginia Medical School Department of Neurology conducting research in neurochemistry and developmental neurobiology. Linda has also worked for Orthopedic Physical Therapy and Indian Hill High School. She and her husband Don reside in Cincinnati and have four children.

Athletic Trainer/Faculty: Jennifer Walker is an Athletic Trainer and Assistant Professor of Health, Physical Education and Athletic Training. Jennifer earned her bachelor's degree from Wilmington College in 1997 majoring in athletic training. Her senior year she received an NATA-REF Scholarship. After Wilmington, Jennifer attended The Ohio State University receiving her masters of arts degree in Sports Management. Jennifer is an American Red Cross Health and Safety instructor. Before coming back to Wilmington, Jennifer worked for the Dayton Sports Medicine Institute. While at DSMI she covered Eaton H.S., Centerville H.S., and Springboro H.S. Jennifer is married to fellow Wilmington alum Doug Walker and they reside in Hillsboro, Ohio.

Athletic Trainer: Troy Garrett joins Wilmington as Assistant Athletic Trainer. Troy was an athletic training student at Truman State University (Kirksville, MO), graduating in 1995. He earned a Master's Degree at the University of Oklahoma and served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer in 1998. He spent another two years in Oklahoma, serving as the Head Athletic Trainer at Southeastern Oklahoma State (Durant, OK) from 1998-2000. In 2000 Troy returned to his alma mater, Truman State University, serving as Assistant Athletic Trainer until 2004. In 2004 Troy and his wife Jennifer relocated to the Cincinnati area. Troy was employed with TriHealth while providing outreach services to Cincinnati State Community College. Troy and Jennifer Garrett were married in 2003 and now reside in Forest Park, Ohio.

 | Medical Director/Team Orthopeadic Physician Dr. John Turba has served as team orthopaedic physican for Wilmington College since 1977. He is owner and director of Queen City Sports Medicine in Cincinnati and has extensive experience in sports medicine serving as an orthopaedic surgeon at Cincinnati's Christ Hospital. As our team physician, Dr Turba and his staff conduct a weekly injury evaluation clinic in our athletic training room each week, in addition to traveling to and from many home and away football games. Dr. Turba earned his bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Hendrix College, Arkansas. He completed medical school in 1972 at Tulane University New Orleans and an internship in general surgery and residency requirements at the University of Cincinnati. In 1976 Dr. Turba completed a world-renowned fellowship at the Hughston Clinic under the direction of Jack C. Hughston, M.D. Dr. Turba resides in Cincinnati and has two sons John E. Jr. and Ronald D.
