Fire Safety
If you saw the 48 Hours
show titled, "Campus Insecurity," there were some compelling questions
raised about how safe a college campus really is. Here are some answers to
suggested questions from "Ask The Safety Basics: Questions To Take With
You On College Tours" from cbsnews.com.
Fire Safety
Are students provided
with a program for fire safety and prevention? Does the school maintain and
regularly test smoke alarms and fire alarm systems, and replace smoke alarm
batteries every semester? Are residence buildings equipped with sprinkler
systems? Do residence buildings conduct fire drills and practice escape routes
and evacuation plans?
Yes. Each September,
fire drill and educational sessions are held in the residence halls in conjunction
with the Wilmington Fire Department to train students on what to do when a
fire alarm is sounded. Smoke alarm systems are checked prior to students
arrival in August and during the winter break. The fire alarm systems are
tested at least once each academic year. None of our residence halls are equipped
with sprinkler systems.
What is the frequency
of false alarms in the residence facilities?
It varies from residence hall to residence hall and from year to year.
Wilmington College students very rarely pull alarms for no reason.
