Business Admin Major

The Business Administration major consists of a central core of courses in economics, accounting, management, and marketing to provide a solid foundation in the theory and practice of business and economics. Beyond that core a student may concentrate in Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Organizational Leadership, or Human Resources Management with at least 18 hours of coursework in the chosen specialty. A major or minor in Business Administration provides students with a broad spectrum of career opportunities in both the private and public sectors. Only one concentration may be chosen by those selecting a major or minor in Business Administration.

Versatile administrative and analytical skills are essential for career success today. A major in Business Administration at Wilmington College provides students with these necessary skills. Students are prepared for a life of success in a wide variety of careers in corporations, family enterprises, charitable institutions, labor and civic organizations.

The broad academic curriculum and the highly interactive co-curriculum of student organizations and internships are infused with the core values of Wilmington College. These Core Values include Peacemaking, Social Justice, Respect for Self and Others, and Humanitarian Service. These values not only enhance the prospect of becoming an effective citizen, they also are important career builders. Firms increasingly seek managers and executives who are accomplished at consensus decision-making, team building, mediation, and conflict resolution. Firms desire managers and executives who comprehend issues of social justice, and appreciate the worth to business organizations of diversity training, community service, social responsibility, and highly refined business ethics. The Business Administration program prepares students for a life of success and a life of service.

Student Organizations

Wilmington College Business Association (WCBA)

Founded by and presided over by students, the Wilmington College Business Association (WCBA) is a campus organization created for the purpose of introducing students to the world of business. Through company tours, guest speakers, and on-campus recruiters, students have the exciting opportunity to explore the current business environment and network with those who can impact their career most. Membership is open to all students and there is no cost to join.

Omicron Delta Epsilon

The honorary society for economics, Omicron Delta Epsilon is internationally known and widely respected. Membership is by invitation only for students who have taken four economics classes, carry a 3.0 overall, a 3.0 in Economics and possess a demonstrated appreciation for the economic perspective. The society offers opportunities for collaboration between students and faculty interested in Economics at Wilmington College and other institutions. There are also opportunities for undergraduate students to publish in the journal called The American Economist, as well as to enter Essay Competitions sponsored by ODE. Membership entitles the student to a free subscription to The American Economist for one year.

Ralph J. Stolle Entrepreneurship Program

In honor of Ralph J. Stolle and through a generous endowment from the Stolle family, Wilmington College is honored to have the Ralph J. Stolle Entrepreneurship program. The late Stolle was an inventor and industrialist and is known throughout the world for his invention of machinery that manufactures "pop-tops" for metal cans as well as his research and development of bovine immunization procedures. The Ralph J. Stolle Entrepreneurship Program seeks to work with area entrepreneurs in developing business plans, conducting marketing analysis, crafting strategy, and so forth. The business students of Wilmington College carry out this effort, garnering them invaluable experience as well as assisting budding entrepreneurs in the surrounding community.

ORGANIZATION LEADERSHIP: ACCELERATED LEADERSHIP PROGRAM (ALP)
Candidates for this program are expected to have previously completed approximately 60
semester hours, with grades of "C-" or better, from a regionally accredited institution. In
addition, they should also possess a minimum of two years work experience prior to
entering the program.

This is a full-time program offered in an accelerated format of two new courses every 7
and a half weeks, including summer. Classes meet on Monday and Thursday evenings
from 6:00-10:00 p.m. Courses are sequenced, and students generally move through the
program together as a group. The major may be completed in five semesters in this
format.

Additional requirements:
1. Approximately 60 semester hours of previously completed coursework as explained
above. The following must be included in this coursework: ENG101 Writing I or its
equivalent, MTH120 Algebra II or a higher numbered mathematics course,
and two courses in the Humanities, one course in the Fine Arts, and two courses in the
Natural Sciences. (Note: students lacking ENG101 or its equivalent are not eligible to
begin ALP. Students lacking MTH120 must complete it by the end of the third
semester in ALP. Students lacking any of the other academic requirements must
complete them prior to graduation).
2. Completion of the additional major requirements described below.
