Why Biology?
If you want to be a scientist who studies biological systems, then Biology is clearly the major for you. But if you want to become a doctor, veterinarian, physical therapist or other type of health-care professional then Biology might not be such an obvious choice.

- The American Association of Colleges of Medicine reports that in 2012, 51% of successful applicants to medical school had completed a bachelor’s degree in a biological science.
- Seven of The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine’s prerequisite courses are Biology courses. Other vet schools around the country have similar requirements.
- Biology courses are required for admission into dental schools, physical therapy training programs and a host of other Allied Health professions.
- A Bachelors's degree in Biology is the natural entry point to the advanced degree programs that train individuals to be leading biological and biomedical researchers.

- The Bachelor of Science in Biology, Life Science Concentration is intended for students who wish to pursue a professional career in medicine, veterinary medicine, plant or animal research, bio-medical research, dentistry, teaching and others.
- The Bachelor of Science in Biology, Environmental Science Concentration prepares students for careers in ecology research, environmental assessment and natural resources management.
- The Bachelor of Science in Biology, Health Sciences Concentration is a flexible program intended for students who seek careers in the Allied Health fields such as physician assistant, physical therapy, public health, pharmacy, occupational therapy and others. Wilmington offers a special program for students who want to become nurses.
- The Bachelor of Arts degree and the Minor in Biology are intended for students who enjoy biology, but plan to combine it with a career in another field such as business, law, education, or communications.
- There is a special program for stuents who want to pursue the Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
