Tom Purtell

Biography:

Tom Purtell is entering his 12th season as a Wilmington College assistant softball coach, and in the fall of 2002 served as the interim head softball coach.

Purtell brings 40 years of coaching experience to the Wilmington College softball program. For the past 12 years, he has had worked with head softball coach Beth Floyd.

Tom has been associated with the Fairfield (Leesburg) High School softball program since its inception in 1978. The Lady Lions have won 15 Southern Hills League titles, 25 sectional championships, five district championships, a regional championship, and made a state final four appearance. Purtell has served as Fairfield’s associate head coach for the past 19 years.

Purtell was founder, manager and coach of the Leesburg Lady Panthers travel softball program from 2000 to 2010. The Leesburg Lady Panthers program has sent 40 players on to play softball at the collegiate level.

Purtell graduated cum laude from The Ohio State University in 1973, with a degree in comprehensive mathematics education. He is a senior partner and director of surveying services with McCarty Associates, LLC in Hillsboro.
