Commencement 2013

Commencement takes place on Saturday, May 11. The procession enters Hermann Court at 10:15 a.m. Guests should be seated by 10:00 a.m. Tickets are required for every person attending, including children and infants. Students are given 5 tickets for guests and can request an additional one or two tickets pending quantity available.

Candidates will gather in the Boyd Cultural Arts Center at 8:45 a.m. to form the academic procession for Commencement. Faculty/Staff will meet in the main lobby of Pyle Center. Please be prompt. In the event of inclement weather, the gathering may change to the YMCA gymnasium, which is adjacent to Hermann Court. Instructions will be given at rehearsal. Last minute changes in venue will be noted in an alert on Wilmington College's home page (www.wilmington.edu).

Remember that for Commencement there will be a processional and a recessional march.

BACCALAUREATE

Baccalaureate is on Friday, May 10 at 5:30 p.m., in Hugh G. Heiland Theatre. Boyd Cultural Arts Center (College Street, halfway between Main and Elm streets).  Families are invited and encouraged to attend.  It includes both campus and student speakers who will focus on the religious and humanitarian values that are central to the mission of Wilmington College.  Caps and gowns are not worn for Baccalaureate services, but attire suitable for a church service (or an important job interview) is appropriate.  Candidates can sit with their friends and families, as no formal procession of graduates will be held this year. 

PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHS

Professional photographers will take a panoramic class photo after rehearsal on Friday, May 10. On Commencement day, individual photos are taken of the graduate shaking hands with the president and there is an opportunity after the ceremony for families and friends to have their photos taken with graduates. Also, new this year, graduates will have an opportunity to have a photo taken in cap and gown at 8:30 a.m. prior to the line up for the procession.

Because we provide professional photography services, guests will not be permitted on the main gymnasium floor during the ceremony.
