Winter Storm Closes Campus

The second winter storm in less than a week forced the closure of Wilmington College's main campus and the College's Cincinnati branches. As Physical Plant employees plowed across campus, snowmen, forts, football games and an icy couch sprouted from a bed of snow.

 

Freshman Move-In Day

Members of what appears to be a record-breaking class of new students moved into their homes-away-from-home at Wilmington College Thursday morning (Aug. 17). The following gallery is a glimpse of move-in day. They were assisted by a volunteer contingent of returning students, faculty, staff and members of the College's Board of Trustees and Alumni/Parents Council.

 

Lytle Creek Pavilion Dedication

The Trailhead Pavilion for the Lytle Creek Greenway was dedicated Oct. 21 in activities that included a nature hike, fun run, bridle trail ride and complimentary lunch, in addition to the dedication ceremony. The completed segment of the Greenway, which ultimately will traverse the entire City of Wilmington, runs from the Trailhead Pavilion off Davids Drive to Wilmington College's Hazard Arboretum. The College is owner of the nearly mile and a half section of the Greenway.

February Ice Storm

An ice storm on the heels of several inches of snow caused Wilmington College to close for two days, Feb. 13 and 14. The gallery features a glimpse of the 2007 St. Valentine's Day "massacre."

Cincinnati Branch 20th Anniversary

Wilmington College celebrated "20 Years in Cincinnati" with a reception for alumni and friends of the Cincinnati Branch March 7. Pictured are scenes from the festive evening.

 

Relay for Life

17 sports teams, student organizations and fraternities and sororities fielded teams that walked, rode or skated their way around the campus mall for more than 15 hours March 30 and 31 in support of cancer awareness and curing the disease.

Alumni Weekend 2007

Featured are photos from Alumni Weekend, June 1 and 2, which featured such events as a Friday reception for award recipients and reunion classes, an alumni art exhibit, campus tours, Alumni College "classes," the Awards Luncheon and Grand Banquet. Mostly it's about alumni reconnecting with their former classmates and faculty, and reaffirming their relationship with their alma mater.

Presidential candidate John McCain visits Wilmington College to meet with local residents and representatives of a regional task force to hear concerns about proposed job cuts at the Wilmington Air Park recently announced by DHL. Snow/Ice Storm Closes Campus

The campus woke up to three inches of snow Tuesday morning, but that was just a start. It changed to freezing rain by mid-afternoon and continued through the night until it began snowing again Wednesday morning about 8 a.m. I walked around campus between 10 and 10:30 and saw the following:

Quaker Emeriti Banquet for Class of 1959

Sixty-eight members of the Class of 1959 along with their spouses, guests and emeriti faculty and College staff enjoyed the opening night of Alumni Weekend at the Quaker Emeriti Banquet.
